Grow 'N' Share is an urban harvest sharing organization within the community of Yorkton and surrounding area. Our mission is to promote food security within the Parkland region by taking advantage of an underutilized local resource.
Grow 'N' Share harvests unwanted and excess local fruit and vegetables. We are open to harvesting a variety of produce such as apples, pears, plums, raspberries, strawberries, saskatoons, rhubarb, as well as garden produce.
Volunteers will harvest the fruit and/or vegetables when ripe and the bounty will be shared three ways: a portion to the owners (if wanted), a portion to the volunteers and a portion to local food banks, community kitchens and other organizations in need.
Why do we want to share what you grow?
* To preserve food producing trees, shrubs and areas in our community
* To reduce the carbon footprint of the food we eat
* To promote urban agriculture and local eating
* To minimize food waste
* To match excess produce with those in need of it
* To share the joy of good food with members of our community
* To teach about methods of food preservation to further encourage food security
How will you benefit by registering a tree?
Grow-N-Share provides...
* A cleanly picked tree, with no effort on your part
* A share of the produce picked, if desired
* A tidied up fruit producing area, such as fallen apples picked up
* A sense of relief at not wasting food
* A sense of well-being having contributed food to your community
